Man, this bloggin biz has me going all over the place- and always needing a fresh new look. But my pockets (and The Hubbin) won’t stand for that type of spending! This weekend, for brunch, I pulled together this outfit- for only $10! from my local thrift shop- and a ton of you asked for tips on how to ‘thrift.’
So….that said, let’s get down to business. Hahaha! well thrifting- I would HARDLYYYYY say I’m some “thriftanista”- however, I will proudly say I’m super cheap. And when it comes to certain items- Coats/Jackets, Jeans/Skirts, and handbags- there’s no better place than your local thrift store to score a deal!
TRUTH MOMENT: I can’t stand ‘hardcore thrifting’- combing through buckets, checking for holes, mothball fragranced, unorganized racks don’t do it for me. I get overwhelmed- and I’m not down for the hunt THAT badly. That’s why I like shopping at Savers in Towson, MD. They’re located all over, and they have the CLEANEST and best organized store I’ve ever been too. It’s like going to Target…but everything is 80% off! Most items are about $3.99, and everything is organized into sizes. Pants and Skirts go alllll the way up to size 20!
The selection is major- and organized into neat racks and categories- this place is Wal-Mart sized, so set aside time to hunt. If you’re bringing your The Hubbin- set aside EXTRA time…
Next, I go in with a plan. I don’t pretend to be some style guru, so I hit up Pinterest for some inspiration-
Midi Skirts and stockings are my newest ‘thing’ – and they’re so easy to find at thrift stores in great prints and patterns because ‘back in the day’ that’s ALLLLL the ladies wore. I scored 5-6 great skirts for $2.99 each. Plus a super cute gray ‘fair isle’ print sweater, and neat gold metallic elastic belt (clearly from the 80’s- and awesome!).
This shop also has dressing rooms- so arrive in leggings, and a sports bra- so you can try on your finds over your clothing (it’s still a thrift shop, and may not be laundered!)- double check the fit before heading out.
Lastly, make room in your closet before you leave, because if you donate the same day you purchase at Savers- you get a coupon for 30% off your purchase! Yup! Talk about major savings!
Hope that helps, and happy hunting!
