We are well into the new year- and those resolutions may be starting to slip- well here’s a big dose of REALNESS to push those healthy lifestyle/weight loss resolutions, into February!
I get a lot of questions about how I managed to lose (and keep off) 65+ lbs, last year-
I ‘keep it off’ by ‘keeping it real.’
Sounds ridiculous but it’s not- what I’m talking about is not setting insane goals (I will never ‘actually’ look like Beyoncé- I could be the equally fabulous opposite with some work tho!), I didn’t start some strict diet where I have to buy expensive shakes/go to meetings/count points, and I didn’t sign up for some crazy fitness class where I throw bricks and flip tires.
Sorry y’all- but it’s true- I was HONEST with myself, and set a steady, long term, lifestyle change plan- that began with the AWARENESS of how I got fat to begin with. We aren’t born overweight- so what am I doing wrong?
Well- I am lazy, haven’t kept weight off before, quit every work out plan I’ve ever started, and love food. That was easy. Haha! Realness, right?
I started with food- I knew what I was doing on Day 1- was making me fat. Fried foods, sugar, little water, and no veggies. So I started with the opposite of that behavior- LOTS of veggies, water only, and healthy food preparation (baking, portion measuring, and less oils). More details on the foods/meals themselves can be found here.
I also knew that if I felt I couldn’t eat something fried EVER, that I would rage and flip tables wherever I was. Lmao! So I created ‘structure’ around my healthy eating. Monday through Friday- all veggies/whole grains/water. On the weekends….POPEYES CHICKEN. Haha! Not exactly- but if I wanted a drumstick, I saved that urge for Saturday- instead of EVERYday. Make sense?
And through the holidays, I gained weight (7 lbs)- and DIDNT beat myself up over it. I just STAYED AWARE. I knew the holidays were coming. So the week of Thanksgiving, I indulged! But stayed real about portions, aware of not overdoing the fattiest dishes (Mac and cheese)- and skipped gravy-lol!
When that week was over, for the two weeks before Xmas- I went BACK to weekday veg. I lost 1-2 lbs, and didn’t carry that weight into Christmas eating. Get it? Instead of pretending I was not going to attack the ham and collards- I had them, but one plate- and took home zero leftovers. Just being real about it- kept the weight off. Here’s a before pic and an ‘after the holidays eatin’ pic:
Now it’s well into the new year- and yes, I gained some weight- and yes, Ive got some work to do. But NO I’m not signing up for some Crossfit class as my miracle solution. I’m sticking with what I know- cause it’s a LIFESTYLE CHANGE, not a quick diet. So back to my veggies, and buh bye to my holiday weekday meats.
Because Beyoncé, your bod is gonna have some competition in 2014. Lol.
Have a great week curlies!
