I have been jet-setting! With my new position at work, I’ve been traveling two weeks a month- and it’s been SO much fun!
This past week, I was in Newport Beach, California- and it was an incredible trip! Not only was the resort absolutely beautiful, but after getting 3 inches of snow in Maryland- I was ready to thaw out and enjoy some sunshine!
It was my first visit to Newport Beach, CA (I’ve been to L.A. before, and will be going to San Francisco at the end of the month), and it was just gorgeous. The resort was beautiful, and I LOVED my room- it had a fireplace, and a huge patio with an incredible view of the Pacific Ocean. If you follow me on Instagram (Username: NapturalNicole) you can see my travel pics from this trip and other- but here’s a quick one, cause it’s just that awesome-
As you know, I recently removed my straight textured weave, and wore my hair in twistouts for the past two weeks, just to give it a rest. Since I’m going to be on the road, and I have looooong meetings that turn into dinners/cocktails, I figured another weave would be the best way for me to continue my length retention, and minimize the styling I have to do on the road.
For this trip, I decided to change it up- and opt for an ‘old favorite’- Premium Now, Deep Wave, in 1B (two packs)- 16 inches and 18 inches. This hair is fairly inexpensive (total- $130) and is good for two uses (4 weeks each) with proper care.
I maintain this hair the SAME way I maintain my natural hair. I Cowash every 3-5 days, non-sulfate shampoo every 2 weeks, and moisturize with water, Giovanni Leave In, and seal with Coconut oil daily. This keeps the hair soft, not ‘fake’ shiny, and completely detangled. And I LOVE the curl pattern- I either heat-free straighten my leave out, or do flat twists and blend with the weave. I NEVER comb or brush this hair, and only fingercomb/detangle. This minimizes damage to the weft and excess shedding.
For my meetings and dinners, I either pin the hair up into an updo, or pin the front back for a faux ‘half up, half down’ look.
After my meetings, I rushed back to my room to film a quick YouTube review for you curlies, before the sun went down…this was only ‘sorta’ the best idea ever- hahaha- I wanted to get the ocean in the background for you- but that meant filming away from the sun- which is not the most awesome situation for my ‘chocolatey brown mahogany undertone’ complexion. Needless to say, the video is quick, and effective- but a bit on the dark side (sorry!!!). I will do a much better, update vid later this week!
I just got back from Cali on Saturday, and my weave is still going strong! I’m headed to Atlanta on Wednesday, and will definitely keep you posted!
What protective styles have you been rocking lately, curlies? Are you ready to debut your post winter fro?
