Naked Hair: Examining your hair, PRODUCT FREE.

Every so often, after a good wash- I let my hair slightly air dry before applying my deep conditioner.

When my hair is product free, unstyled, and shrunken, I can see what condition my hair really is in. I check for a few things:

1. Does it look seriously uneven? In other words, is the area above my ears 2 inches long, and the area at my crown 10 inches long?

Reason: If you notice major length difference, this might be due to styling breakage- tight ponytails, tight weaves/braids, or rough combing.

2. Are my curls clumping together?

Reason: This let’s me know my cuticle along my hair strand is laying flat, and not causing frizzy hair.

3. Is my hair shiny?

Reason: Healthy, flat, cuticles reflect the light and result in super shiny hair. If my strands don’t have the bling factor going on- I know I have to revised something in my regimen.

4. Is my hair curling at the ends?

Reason: If my hair doesn’t curl at the ends, I usually need a protein treatment, or possibly a dusting. Managing my split ends, and single strand knots helps me with length retention and prevents breakage.

While nailing the perfect regimen is a huge milestone in the natural hair journey, as my hair grows and its needs change- its important for me to closely monitor its progress and the best time to do this is post wash, while your hair is in its purest unadulterated form!
