Happy New Year, Curly Divas!
I hope you all had a wonderful year, and to kick off 2013 with a bang, I’m going to share some juicy NapturalNicole details…
*pulls up a chair, leans in close, and yells..*
YOU ALL ARE NOSY! Hahaha!
I receive a TON of questions on NapturalNicole.com about natural hair and products- but I also get a lot of questions about my life, family, and skin regimens. I think it’s too cool that you all tune into the blog- and ‘ain’t no shame in my game’- so I definitely wanted to make sure I got the responses out there.
I took it to the ‘Tube and posted a video answering the most common questions I’ve received here, on NapturalNicole.com- if you scroll down, you can see pics, and details on the products in the YouTube vid- and where to get them!
1. How did you get your teeth so white?
2. Are you married? Is your husband/boyfriend white?
3. What’s your ‘styling station look like?
I’m a true product junkie- I did a whole blog post about my product junkism and how to store my stuff. Here is a pic of where I do my hair, and film most of my YouTube Videos:
4. My daughter wants to get a relaxer, how can I keep her from getting one?
Regardless of the motivations behind why your little girl should remain natural (and there are MANY beyond political)- you are up against a media superstorm that will be telling her otherwise. The best advice I can offer is to compromise. Show her how to work with her natural hair- inform her that straightening her hair is damaging- much like too much sun for skin (though we are over simplifying here)- and it is in her interest to limit straightening to twice a year (maybe on a holiday and her birthday) and only to be done by a professional as part of a ‘beauty day’ treat.
Give her a ‘mini regimen’ and accessories to doll up her hair- and show her some styles that emphasize that natural hair, doesn’t exactly mean a short afro (I find that most young ladies are concerned with the flowing lengths of ‘Beyonce and Nicki Minaj’ rather than the straightness- and when show that this can be achieved through an ‘elongated twistout or braidout’ natural style- they are more than satisfied.
I highly recommend this website: http://beadsbraidsbeyond.blogspot.com/ for inspirational photos that showcase the beauty of a young girl proudly (and stylishly) wearing her natural hair. Maybe your daughter can pick a look for a special ‘style treat’ from her awesome dad? Only if she finishes all her chores, of course. 🙂
5. What’s your skin regimen/what make up do you use?
6. Will you have a meetup or Natural Hair Event?
Check back around Spring 2013 for more details on the NapturalNicole.com Natural Hair Meetup/Event!
And here’s the vid:
Thanks for checking in, Curlistas and keep the great questions coming (hair ones too)!
Did I answer your question? Or do you have another one for the next Q&A with Nicole video?
