It’s officially WINTER! That means dryer temperatures, extra moisturization, and protective styles!! I’ve been pretty good about my protective styling the past few months, and I’ve seen the length retention to prove it. Crochet braids have been my ‘go to’ look, and I still love them, but I was craving a ponytail with a ton of ‘swang.’
And the WEAVES ARE BACK!
THAT’S RIGHT MY CURLFRIENDS!- I’m currently rocking a full head sew in (installed by yours truly) synthetic weave. Specifically; Vivica Fox Remi Human Hair Blend Synthetic Tracks in 1B- 2 packs, 14″ and 16″. SUPER CHEAP (you all know I don’t get down with the crazy Malaysian hair prices)- both bundles cost me $35! Very nice.
The installation was quick, easy, with minimal shedding. So far (week one)- the hair has performed as promised; soft, manageable, zero tangles/fraying/shedding. Plus, it curls beautifully (you can use heat up to 360 degrees).
To maintain, I sleep with hair wrapped, and a satin bonnet at night. I also (when needed) apply my aloe veta spritz and a teeny amount of kinky curly knot today to seal the ends. Perfect. In the mornings I can shake and go.
Most importantly, I am tending to my fragile natural strands- that were thoroughly deep conditioned and moisturized prior to installation- using my homemade tea tree leave in mixture every
other day. So far, so good.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be super busy attending natural hair events (I’ll post dates and times so you can come out and hang!)- and prepping my Baltimore house for sale (I’ll still be around the DMV!)- so this protective style will be in for 3-5 weeks. Then again, if this synthetic hair doesn’t hold up (I have insanely picky standards)- its coming out and my trusty old crochets are going in.
I’ll keep you posted! Keep it nappy, naturalistas!
